I. Ruginienė is silent about Lithuania's scenarios if NATO collapses – L. Kasčiūnas' question to R. Kaunas
Lithuanian Prime Minister I. Ruginienė has not publicly shared the country’s contingency plans regarding NATO's potential collapse, despite inquiries from opposition leaders.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė has previously hinted that Lithuania has plans A, B, and C in the event of NATO's collapse, but she has not explicitly detailed these scenarios. Members of the opposition have expressed their desire to learn more about these plans, seeking to engage in discussions with the Prime Minister to better understand Lithuania's preparedness in this scenario. However, Ruginienė has yet to meet with them to disclose any information regarding these strategies.
During a recent presentation about national defense affairs, Defense Minister R. Kaunas faced scrutiny from opposition leader Laurynas Kasčiūnas regarding the lack of clarity on the contingency plans. Kasčiūnas pointed out that they have been attempting to bring in the Prime Minister to the National Security and Defense Committee meetings to discuss at least the 'Plan B' in the event of issues arising with 'Plan A'. He emphasized the importance of understanding the government's defense strategy and preparedness in the face of potential crises involving NATO.
This situation raises pertinent questions about Lithuania's strategic military readiness and transparency in government communications, especially in the context of heightened global tensions. The uncertainty concerning national defense plans could affect public confidence and political stability, highlighting the need for clear communication from leadership regarding national security within the NATO framework.
