After STT Searches in the Seimas – The First Reaction from the Leader of the Conservatives
L.Kasčiūnas expressed confidence that K.Starkevičius will cooperate with investigators following searches related to a corruption investigation.
On a recent Monday, significant legal actions unfolded involving members of the Lithuanian political landscape, specifically from the Democratic Union "For Lithuania" and the conservative faction. L.Kasčiūnas, a notable figure within the Conservative party, shared through his Facebook page that the party had limited information regarding the situation, as the pre-trial investigation materials are not public. He emphasized the importance of cooperation with investigative bodies and stated that if the Prosecutor General asks the Seimas to lift K.Starkevičius's immunity, he believes Starkevičius would willingly do so.
Kasčiūnas also suggested that while the investigation is ongoing, Starkevičius should suspend his membership in the TS-LKD party. This stance indicates a serious approach towards accountability within their ranks and reflects a growing concern over public trust. As reported, attempts to contact Starkevičius were unsuccessful, as his phone was turned off, and he is believed to be at his home in the Kaunas district where searches were taking place.
The Special Investigation Service confirmed that the searches of the homes and workplaces of prominent politicians, including Starkevičius, are part of a broader investigation into corruption. This development raises significant questions about the integrity of political structures in Lithuania and poses potential ramifications for the ongoing political discourse amid heightened public scrutiny concerning corruption and accountability in government affairs.
