Park Mi-jung Appointed as Chair of Korean Committee for International Council of Museums

Park Mi-jung has been elected as the chair of Korea's Committee for the International Council of Museums (ICOM).

Park Mi-jung, the director of the Hwanggi Art Museum, has been appointed as the 16th chairperson of the Korean Committee for the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The announcement came after a regular general meeting held on June 6, where it was disclosed that Park would serve a three-year term. She holds a Ph.D. in fine arts from Paris 8 University in France and has previously held significant positions including president of the Seoul Museum Association, board director of the Korean Museum Association, vice president of the Korea Private Museum Association, and committee member for the Government Art Bank.

In her new role, Park has outlined her main objectives which focus on strengthening international connections among Korean museums and art galleries, as well as elevating the status of the Korean Committee on a global scale. She aims to enhance the sharing of information within the international network and actively promote the expertise and creativity of domestic institutions to the global community. These goals reflect a commitment to increasing Korea's visibility and engagement in the international museum sector.

ICOM, headquartered in Paris, France, serves as a global organization for museums across the world, with participation from over 130 countries through various committees. Park's leadership in this organization signifies an opportunity for Korean museums to collaborate more effectively internationally and to gain recognition for their contributions to the museum field on a larger stage.
