Seo Wang-jin Calls on the Ministry of Justice to Seek Party Dissolution of the People Power Party... "Yoon Suk-yeol and Chun Doo-hwan Are Back"
Seo Wang-jin, the floor leader of the Justice Innovation Party, has urged the Ministry of Justice to file for the dissolution of the People Power Party, citing its ties to extremism and past authoritarian figures.
In a speech at the National Assembly, Seo Wang-jin, the floor leader of the Justice Innovation Party, issued a strong call for the Ministry of Justice to seek the dissolution of the People Power Party, accusing the party of harboring extremist views and ties to past authoritarian leaders like Yoon Suk-yeol and Chun Doo-hwan. He emphasized that while the people had prevented a coup, the presence of the far-right party, which occupies one-third of the National Assembly, poses a continuing threat to democracy that needs urgent addressing.
Seo highlighted that the People Power Party is transforming into a hub for far-right extremism, led by notable figures and influencers who promote aggressive and divisive narratives. He expressed concerns that such political maneuvers and ideologies contradict the constitutional requirement for parties to uphold democratic principles, thus warranting legal action against the party under constitutional law.
Additionally, Seo also advocated for a concurrent referendum on decentralization during the upcoming local elections. He suggested enshrining the principles of local autonomy in the constitution, which he believes will promote a democratic ethos and ensure citizens' rights are recognized. Seo's statements reflect a deep concern for the political climate in South Korea, as he calls for reforms to both correct misunderstandings within political coalitions and protect the integrity of democracy itself.
