Augšdaugava volleyball players rise to first place in the National League of the Latvian Championship
The Augšdaugava volleyball team achieved first place in the Latvian National League after winning two matches over the weekend.
The Augšdaugava volleyball team claimed the top position in the Latvian National League after a successful weekend, where they won both of their matches against Aizpute and RSU. This victory positions them favorably ahead of the final group match in the season. In the first match, Augšdaugava triumphed over Aizpute with a decisive score of 3-0, showcasing notable performances from team members such as Matīss Šalkovskis who scored 20 points, Daņila Mironovs with 15, and Rihards Puķītis contributing with 14 points, including four unreturnable serves.
In their second match against RSU, Augšdaugava continued their winning streak with a 3-1 victory, further solidifying their lead in the league standings. Key players contributed significantly to this win as well, with Fēlikss Cīrulis and Klāvs Stebulis marking impressive scores; Stebulis shone with an extraordinary nine blocks among his total points, underlining the team’s strong defensive play. With these victories, Augšdaugava's position at the top of the league highlights their competitive edge as they approach the critical final matches of the championship.
In contrast, the women’s side of the competition saw notable successes for Daugavpils Sports School, who also claimed two wins in both the Latvian Championship and the National League competitions. This indicates a competitive dynamic within Latvian volleyball this season, with both men’s and women’s teams making significant strides in their respective leagues as they vie for championship titles.
