Canadian biathlon team 17th in mixed relay

Canada's biathlon team finished 17th in the mixed relay at the Milan Cortina Olympics.

At the Milan Cortina Olympics, Canada secured a 17th place finish in the biathlon mixed relay, with a team comprising two-time Olympian Adam Runnalls and fellow teammates Jasper Fleming, Nadia Moser, and Pascale Pardis. They completed the 4×6-kilometre race in a total time of 1:08:37.1, trailing behind the gold medalists from France, who recorded a winning time of 1:04:15.5. Julia Simon's exceptional performance, particularly her accuracy in hitting all five targets before exiting the range, was pivotal in leading her team to victory.

France's impressive performance was followed by Italy, which finished in second place, just 25.8 seconds off the pace, while Germany claimed the third spot, finishing 1:05 behind the French team. Adam Runnalls' performance was noteworthy, as he skied within the top 10 during several laps of the course, highlighting his competitive prowess. Runnalls was previously part of the Canadian team during the 2022 Beijing Games, where they achieved their best result in Olympic biathlon history by finishing sixth in the mixed relay.

The Olympic biathlon events will continue with the men’s 20-kilometre individual on Tuesday, further showcasing the athletes’ endurance and skill in this demanding winter sport. The Canadian team, while not on the podium this time, remains a competitive presence in international biathlon and aims to improve in future competitions.
