Narva does not plan to demolish problematic football hall
Narva city officials are searching for a safe solution for a problematic football hall instead of demolishing it, despite past construction failures and excessive running costs.
Narva city has announced that it will not demolish the newly-built football hall, which has been plagued by issues since its inauguration over a year ago. The authorities are currently looking for viable solutions to ensure the facility can be used safely, rather than resorting to demolition. Reports indicating the hall's removal have been dismissed by city officials, who are focused on rectifying existing problems related to the structure.
The football hall, which was opened ceremoniously two years ago at a cost of seven million euros, was closed last November due to severe structural issues, including the roof's inability to withstand snow loads and significantly higher heating costs than expected. An audit of the building was commissioned by the local government to identify the faults, but its final version has yet to be approved, as it reportedly lacks clear identification of the problems' causes and potential solutions.
In light of these challenges, city officials emphasize the search for the most practical long-term solution, such as replacing the membrane of the structure, while also considering other options. The situation raises broader questions about construction quality and operational safety in public sports facilities, highlighting the need for thorough inspections and quality assurance in future projects in the region.
