The Greek Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family has initiated a relocation allowance program offering up to 10,000 euros for citizens who move to enhance the local community and repopulate areas that are either mountainous, remote, or border regions. The aim of this program is to stimulate these areas economically and socially, addressing the challenges of depopulation and demographic decline.

Initially launched as a pilot project in the Evros region, the program is now expanding to include other regions such as Kastoria, Florina, Kilkis, Serres, Pella, and Drama. The targeted municipalities within Evros include specific districts of Soufli, Didymoteicho, and Orestiada, which have been heavily affected by demographic shrinkage. By providing financial incentives for relocation, the Greek government aims to not only revitalize these communities but also ensure their sustainability in the long term.
