Sultan, Ooni, Kukah receive honorary doctorates at FUOYE 10th convocation

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti awarded honorary doctorates to notable figures including the Sultan of Sokoto and the Ooni of Ife at its 10th convocation ceremony.

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti celebrated its 10th convocation ceremony on Saturday, honoring prominent religious leaders and monarchs, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar III, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, with honorary doctorate degrees. This event marked not only the recognition of these individuals but also highlighted the achievements of the university during the tenure of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina.

During the ceremony, Prof. Fasina presented an account of his five-year leadership, which he characterized as a period of unprecedented growth and transformation at FUOYE. He noted that under his administration, the university has risen to become the fourth most sought-after institution in Nigeria, with significant improvements in its national ranking, indicating a positive trajectory in the institution's reputation and academic excellence.

A total of 7,684 students graduated from the university, comprised of 7,396 undergraduates—of which 131 achieved First Class honors—and 288 postgraduates. Prof. Fasina emphasized that these achievements were the result of a 20-point agenda and a transformation blueprint implemented during his tenure, reflecting the university's commitment to enhancing educational standards and outputs in Nigeria.
