Inmet issues alert for heavy rains in all cities of Paraíba

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rains across all 223 municipalities in Paraíba, Brazil.

On Sunday, October 8th, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) renewed a yellow alert for heavy rains affecting all cities in the state of Paraíba, Brazil, starting from 9:50 AM and expected to last until 11:59 PM the same day. This alert warns residents that they may experience rainfall rates between 20 to 30 millimeters per hour, accompanied by winds reaching up to 60 km/h. While there is a low risk associated with power outages and falling trees, the alert encourages the public to exercise caution during the adverse weather conditions.

In the capital city, João Pessoa, rainfall measurements indicated that 17.16 mm fell within the last 24 hours, with the highest individual precipitation recorded at Cristo (24.6 mm) and Grotão (22.4 mm). Meanwhile, Campina Grande recorded rainfall of 22.8 mm over the same period, with particularly high readings noted at Jardim Paulistano (42.6 mm) and Cruzeiro (41.8 mm). These figures suggest that the weather could potentially lead to localized flooding and impact daily activities in various communities.

The Civil Defense of Campina Grande has been monitoring the situation closely, given the potential for heavy rains to lead to flooding in urban areas. With around 60 points monitored for rainwater accumulation, local authorities urge residents to stay alert and follow safety recommendations during the alert period. This situation highlights the importance of preparedness and response to inclement weather conditions, particularly in regions susceptible to flooding and other rain-related incidents.
