Bronze for Sofia Goggia, sixth Pirovano, tenth Brignone

Sofia Goggia secured a bronze medal in the downhill event at the Winter Olympics for the third consecutive time, finishing with a time of 1'36.96.

At the Winter Olympics, Sofia Goggia once again showcased her talent in the downhill discipline, earning a bronze medal with a time of 1 minute and 36.96 seconds. This achievement marks her third consecutive podium finish in winter Olympics downhill events, solidifying her status as a top competitor. The American Breezy Johnson took home the gold medal with a time of 1 minute and 36.10 seconds, while Germany's Emma Aicher narrowly missed the gold, securing silver with a time just four hundredths of a second slower.

Goggia's run was filled with ups and downs. Starting strongly, she initially gained on the leader Johnson by 18 hundredths of a second. However, two slight mistakes during the course cost her time, leading to her eventual bronze finish. Despite these setbacks, she managed to recover during portions of the course but ultimately fell short of defending her title. The result is bittersweet for Goggia, who expressed disappointment over narrowly missing a higher podium finish, although she noted that this medal was the last color she needed for her Olympic collection.

In addition to Goggia's performance, Laura Pirovano finished strong in sixth place, while Federica Brignone placed tenth. Goggia's bronze brings pride to Italy, highlighting the depth of talent within the national ski team as they look forward to future competitions, particularly the next Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina in 2026.
