Weather forecasts have changed significantly: after a few days, the cold will quickly recede
Meteorologists predict a quick transition from cold weather to milder temperatures in Lithuania over the coming days.
Lithuanian meteorologist Gytis Valaika has recently posted on his Facebook page about the significant changes in weather forecasts. He notes that there has been a thickening of snow cover and a colder air mass has moved in overnight. According to Valaika, the next two nights are expected to be cold, but weather models predict a gradual thaw beginning mid-week. However, he cautions that similar thaws in the past have often dissipated as the warm air fails to push out the cold air sitting at ground level, which is currently being insulated by the snow cover. If the snow were absent, warm air could penetrate much more easily.
In addition to Valaika's insights, fellow meteorologist Elvyra LatvΔnaitΔ corroborates the expectation of warming, predicting not just above-freezing temperatures but also the potential for mixed precipitation such as sleet and rain. She highlights that starting Sunday, a high-pressure system named Emmeram will be spreading across Central and Eastern Europe, bringing dryer and colder air from Scandinavia. This will create clearer skies and usher in the colder air from the northeast, indicating that the weather will undergo notable changes soon.
As these weather shifts unfold, they carry implications for various sectors, including agriculture, transportation, and winter sports. A transition to milder temperatures can disrupt snow conditions critical for winter activities while also affecting frost-sensitive crops. The anticipated precipitation could lead to varying conditions that may pose challenges for both daily commuters and those preparing for outdoor activities.
