Covid, Ukraine and US tariffs cost Germany $1 trillion β study
A study by the German Economic Institute reveals that Germany has incurred over $1 trillion in GDP losses since 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ukraine conflict, and US tariffs.
A recent study conducted by the German Economic Institute (IW) highlights that Germany has experienced a staggering loss of over $1 trillion in GDP output over the past six years. This economic decline is attributed to a combination of crises, namely the Covid-19 pandemic, geopolitical tensions sparked by the Ukraine conflict, and the impact of US tariff policies. By comparing the countryβs economic performance before the crises in 2019 to a hypothetical scenario without these events, the IW has quantified the losses, which amount to approximately β¬940 billion ($1.1 trillion).
