After the general's shooting in Moscow – FSB news: a suspect detained

The FSB has detained a Russian citizen, Liubomiras Korba, suspected of shooting at a general in Moscow, assisted by partners from the UAE.

The FSB (Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation) reported the detention of a suspect named Liubomiras Korba, a 1960-born Russian citizen. Korba is alleged to have fired multiple shots at Lieutenant General Vladimir Aleksejev, the deputy head of Russia's military intelligence agency GRU, at a residential building in north-western Moscow. The FSB stated that the suspect was apprehended in Dubai with the help of partners from the United Arab Emirates and handed over to Russian authorities.

Reports indicate that Lieutenant General Aleksejev underwent surgery after the shooting incident, which took place on a Friday. Prior to Korba's capture, Russian media indicated that another accomplice born in 1959 was also detained in Moscow. Moreover, a third suspect reportedly fled to Ukraine in the aftermath of the shooting, raising concerns about a broader network of conspirators involved in targeting high-ranking military officials.

The incident marks a concerning trend, as General Aleksejev is the latest high-ranking military officer to be targeted near Moscow since the escalation of military activities in Ukraine began in 2022. This shooting not only raises questions about the motivations behind such acts but also emphasizes the precarious security situation for military officials within Russia, particularly in the context of the ongoing conflict and political tensions which could lead to further violence against military leadership.
