Cairo has recently finalized its largest telecommunications frequency deal ever, valued at nearly $3.5 billion, which will allocate 410 megahertz of new frequency bands to the four telecom operators currently active in the market. This agreement was witnessed by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and is considered a groundbreaking step for the telecommunications sector in Egypt. According to the Cabinet statement, the volume of new frequencies matches what has been allocated to mobile companies in the past 30 years combined, aiming to enhance the country’s digital infrastructure and improve the quality of communication services.

Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, emphasized the unprecedented nature of the deal, as it effectively doubles the frequency capacity available to telecom operators over three decades in a single transaction. This move is intended to ensure that the networks are prepared to accommodate future applications, particularly with the rollout of 5G services expected to begin in June 2025. Moreover, Talaat noted that the expansion of frequency bands is not merely a technical action, but a strategic long-term initiative that reflects the partnership between the state and the private sector in reshaping the country’s digital architecture.
