Remittances of Egyptians abroad reach highest level in history during 2025
In 2025, remittances from Egyptians abroad have reached an all-time high of approximately $41.5 billion, marking a significant increase of 40.5% compared to 2024.
The Central Bank of Egypt has reported that remittances from Egyptians working abroad recorded the highest level in history for the year 2025, increasing by 40.5% to nearly $41.5 billion, compared to approximately $29.6 billion in 2024. This surge reflects the growing economic activity and contributions of the Egyptian diaspora, underscoring its importance to the national economy.
In the first half of the fiscal year 2025/2026, the remittances showed a notable increase of 29.6%, reaching around $22.1 billion, up from about $17.1 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year. The monthly data indicated that in December 2025 alone, the remittances surged by 24% to around $4 billion, surpassing the previous record of $3.2 billion in December 2024, indicating a steady and growing financial inflow from abroad.
Egypt ranks seventh globally in the list of countries receiving remittances from their citizens working abroad, with significant contributions coming primarily from the Gulf countries, where approximately 8 million Egyptians are employed. This trend not only highlights the reliance of the Egyptian economy on foreign remittances but also the strength of the diaspora's financial support, which plays a vital role in bolstering domestic economic conditions.
