Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa has instructed various ministries to carry out tasks related to the Epstein case, emphasizing the need for investigation and public support.

Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa has tasked the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Welfare, and the Ministry of Education and Science with several initiatives related to the Epstein case materials. The mandate includes tasks such as clarifying and investigating conditions, providing support, encouraging the public to report, and implementing preventive, controlling, and educational measures. This comprehensive approach demonstrates the government's commitment to addressing sensitive issues surrounding the case.

Diana Jakaite, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Welfare, explained that the range of assignments mandated by the Prime Minister is extensive. The Ministry of the Interior has been directed to submit a progress report to the Cabinet by March 20, 2023, detailing both actions taken and planned activities related to the Epstein case materials. This report is expected to cover a wide spectrum of responses to the challenges posed by the scandal and ensure effective measures are applied moving forward.

Additionally, the State Police recently initiated a criminal process concerning newly publicized materials related to the Epstein case, classifying it under human trafficking offenses per the Criminal Law. However, the police have not provided further comments regarding the investigation as it unfolds. The Latvian government’s response illustrates a proactive stance towards addressing concerns around human trafficking and protecting potential victims in the aftermath of the Epstein case.
