DF Chamber: Ibaneis' base wants to prioritize 'strategic agendas'; opposition is expected to insist on CPI, Master case, and impeachment
The Legislative Chamber of the Federal District is set to resume work, with Governor Ibaneis Rocha's administration prioritizing strategic projects while the opposition pushes for an impeachment process and investigations.
As the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District prepares to commence its sessions for 2026, the government led by Ibaneis Rocha (MDB) is facing the critical task of reorganizing its political base and advancing strategic legislative projects. The session on January 3 was preliminary, with attendance low as many deputies left the plenary shortly after returning, indicating that substantial work may begin only after the upcoming Carnival festivities.
The opposition made its presence known during the session by calling for impeachment proceedings against Governor Ibaneis and the establishment of a Congressional Inquiry (CPI) to investigate connections between the Bank of Brasília (BRB) and the Bank Master. These demands point towards significant political tensions as the government navigates budgetary crises and seeks to maintain stability in the face of opposition scrutiny.
Despite attempts to reach out to the governor's administration for clarification on their strategic priorities for the year, no responses were received. Nevertheless, allies of Ibaneis have hinted that addressing the financial crisis plaguing the government will be a central focus, setting the stage for a politically charged year ahead as foundational policies and governance in the Federal District are scrutinized and challenged.
