Dismantling of CJNG cell controlling drug dealing in Oaxaca supply market

Security forces in Oaxaca have dismantled a criminal cell connected to the CJNG responsible for drug dealing in a local supply market.

In a significant operation conducted by state security forces, the army, and the National Guard, a criminal cell linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) was dismantled in Oaxaca. This group had been controlling drug dealing activities in the local supply market, referred to as the 'mercado de abastos.' The operation resulted in the confiscation of firearms, including a homemade submachine gun, along with approximately 250 doses of cocaine and crystal meth, as well as 50 marijuana cigarettes.

The operation stemmed from extensive police intelligence work, which utilized C-5 surveillance cameras to track the activities of the criminal group. The state Attorney General, Bernardo Rodríguez Alamilla, revealed that the authorities successfully located the group's operational base within the Bar Camel II, situated in the area known as "El Ex Pueblito," close to the intersection of Las Casas street and the Periférico. With a focus on counteracting the CJNG's influence in the region, this operation marks a pivotal step in addressing organized crime in Oaxaca.

The dismantling of this cell underscores ongoing efforts by authorities to combat the influence of major drug cartels in Mexico, particularly in regions that have seen an uptick in violence related to drug trafficking. As the government continues to focus on eliminating organized crime networks, such operations are likely to have implications not only for local law enforcement but also for broader national security. The seizure of drugs and weapons indicates the scale of the operation and emphasizes challenges faced by the authorities in restoring peace in areas heavily impacted by drug-related violence.
