Finally! After a decade of waiting, Zagreb residents have received a safer crossing
Residents of Trokut and Savski gaj in Zagreb now have a new pedestrian-bike underpass following years of anticipation, providing improved safety for local commuters.
After decades of waiting, residents of the Trokut and Savski gaj neighborhoods in Zagreb have finally received a much-needed safe pedestrian and bicycle underpass beneath the railway tracks. This project, valued at approximately 1.5 million euros excluding VAT, was announced by the City of Zagreb, highlighting a significant improvement in the safety of pedestrian and cycling traffic in the area. The underpass spans 12.2 meters in length, 4.5 meters in width, and 3 meters in height, complementing the construction with a new 100-meter-long pedestrian-bicycle path that includes enhanced public lighting throughout the route and inside the underpass.
The completion of this underpass project marks a substantial upgrade to the infrastructure for local residents who previously had to walk hundreds of meters to reach the nearest existing underpass or railway crossing. With the new underpass now in operation, the safety and quality of movement for pedestrians and cyclists have notably improved, effectively resolving a long-standing issue for the community. This development is expected to encourage more residents to use bicycles and walk rather than rely on motor vehicles, contributing to a greener urban environment.
The introduction of this facility not only benefits the immediate neighborhoods but also aligns with efforts by the City of Zagreb to enhance urban mobility and safety. Such projects underscore the commitment to improving living conditions and quality of life in the city and are seen as vital steps toward a more sustainable urban infrastructure. As Zagreb continues to grow, initiatives like this will be essential for supporting broader transportation goals and meeting the needs of its diverse population.
