Thousands of cars stalled in January's frost, but Lada-Jussi's Samara started up

Severe winter temperatures have caused significant disruptions for drivers in southern Finland, with over 13,500 needing assistance from roadside services.

A prolonged cold spell in Finland has led to challenging conditions for motorists, particularly in the southern regions where the impacts have been most severe. Roadside assistance has been inundated, with the Autoliitto communications chief, Jukka Tolvanen, reporting that over 13,500 drivers required help during January. In contrast, the previous year's January was markedly milder, requiring assistance for only around 8,300 drivers.

The problems for drivers often escalate when nighttime temperatures drop below -17 degrees Celsius, as noted by Tolvanen. In northern Lapland, some issues arose due to the use of inappropriate fuel types that are not suited for severe cold weather conditions. These challenges showcase the impact of extreme winter weather on everyday life and highlight the importance of preparing for such conditions.

However, not all vehicles succumbed to the frost; Jussi Kulonen, a car enthusiast from Hämeenlinna, had a positive experience with his Lada Samara, which proved reliable even in the biting cold. This anecdote serves as a testament to the unique relationship many enthusiasts have with their vehicles, reflecting a blend of nostalgia and practicality in maintaining older cars during harsh weather.
