They defrauded at least 2 million zł in subsidies. 3 women faced over 200 charges
Three women in Poland have been charged with defrauding over 2 million zł in educational subsidies by providing false data about student enrollment.
The Olsztyn prosecutor's office initiated an investigation into fraud concerning educational subsidies in 2022, with local police collaborating to unravel a scheme tied to private educational institutions. Initial operations revealed that these institutions had falsely reported their student enrollment figures to obtain government funding.
The investigation identified three women involved in this fraud: a 30-year-old director and two owners aged 27 and 42 from the Mazowieckie and Warmińsko-Mazurskie regions. They submitted falsified documentation to the City Hall of Olsztyn in a bid to secure funding based on inflated student enrollment figures, which enabled them to exploit public funds meant for educational purposes.
As law enforcement unraveled the details, they uncovered a complex web of deceit that allowed these women to face over 200 charges. The implications of this case are significant, highlighting the issues of oversight in the funding process for educational institutions and the necessity for stricter regulations to prevent similar fraudulent activities in the future.
