A man wanted in Italy was caught in Marijampolė, and a weapon was found
A man sought by Italian law enforcement was apprehended in Marijampolė, Lithuania, where a firearm was also discovered in his possession.
On February 6, at approximately 3:38 PM, in Marijampolė on Kauno Street, a Volkswagen Taigo was stopped by the local authorities. The driver, a 1978-born man, was wanted by law enforcement agencies in the Italian Republic since January 29, 2026. During the vehicle inspection, a weapon-like object was discovered in the man’s handbag, which he did not have a permit to possess.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted under the sections 189 Part 2 and 253 Part 1 of the Lithuanian Criminal Code. These sections pertain to illegal possession of weapons and possession of goods obtained through crime, respectively, indicating serious implications for the suspect. The discovery raises concerns regarding cross-border crime and the potential for illegal activities being conducted within Lithuania.
This incident highlights the importance of international cooperation in law enforcement as countries like Lithuania work with international agencies to address issues related to wanted fugitives. Such instances can improve the efficiency of investigative processes and ensure that justice is administered appropriately for those evading the legal system in their home countries.
