PIX moves R$ 35.4 trillion in 2025, with nearly 80 billion transactions, and sets a record
In 2025, Brazil's PIX payment system recorded R$ 35.4 trillion in transactions, marking a 33.6% increase from the previous year and approaching full adult adoption in the country.
The Central Bank of Brazil announced that the PIX payment system processed R$ 35.36 trillion in transactions during 2025, setting a new record. This figure represents a significant increase of 33.6% from 2024, when the total transactions amounted to R$ 26.46 trillion. Additionally, the number of transactions reached 79.8 billion, surpassing the 63.5 billion transactions noted in 2024. This impressive growth demonstrates the increasing reliance on digital payment systems among Brazilians.
As PIX celebrated its five-year anniversary in November 2025, Renato Gomes, the director of Financial System Organization and Resolution at the Central Bank, highlighted the fact that Brazil was nearing the milestone of having almost the entire adult population utilizing the payment tool. Gomes noted that this rapid adoption has been remarkable and has significantly impacted financial inclusion across the nation by enabling countless individuals to engage with the formal banking system, many of whom previously did not actively use their accounts.
The expansion of PIX not only reflects a shift towards digital financial transactions in Brazil but also poses important implications for the country's economy. The integration of a larger segment of the population into the financial system could lead to increased economic activity and improved financial literacy. As more adults adopt digital tools like PIX, the Central Bank's efforts in promoting such innovations may become crucial for driving financial inclusion and supporting overall economic growth in Brazil.
