Modi to visit Russia this year – Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Russia this year, emphasizing the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries.
During an international conference titled 'Russia and India: To the New Agenda of Bilateral Relations', Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov revealed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated to make an official visit to Russia this year. This announcement aligns with the discussions and agreements made during President Vladimir Putin's significant visit to New Delhi in December of the previous year, which has reinforced the commitment towards strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations.
Lavrov highlighted the importance of high-level dialogue between Russia and India, suggesting that it plays a vital role in ensuring the coherence of their strategic objectives. The outcomes of the previous meetings, which included the signing of several strategic documents, underline the mutual understanding and shared goals that Russia and India aim to achieve. This visit from Modi is considered a step forward in enhancing economic, cultural, and social ties between the two countries, indicative of their long-standing relationship.
In addition to Lavrov’s announcements, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar also spoke at the conference, echoing the sentiment of strengthening bilateral relations. He pointed out that Putin’s previous visit paved the way for a greater collaboration and forthcoming developments, including the establishment of new Indian consulates in Russia. Such initiatives are expected to further solidify the bonds between India and Russia, showcasing a commitment to a multifaceted partnership despite the evolving geopolitical landscape.
