The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) has unveiled interactive 3D models and details about the electronic and mechanical components of Russian Lancet and Scalpel drones. This disclosure includes information about the companies responsible for their manufacture, notably highlighting the Lancet drone known for its significant role in Russian military operations. The unveiling serves to inform both military personnel and the general public about the capabilities of this loitering munition, which has been extensively employed in the ongoing conflict.

One of the key insights shared by the DIU is related to the Lancet drone, identified as Item 51, which is produced by Zala Aero Group. This company has ties to the Kalashnikov concern, indicating a prominent role in Russia’s military-industrial complex. The agency noted that the remnants of a Lancet drone were recovered from the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, originating from an engagement on March 16, suggesting recent upgrades to this drone model that enable it to target a broader array of military assets beyond its initial design for neutralizing vehicles and operational facilities.

In contrast, the Scalpel drone is described as a lesser-known counterpart developed by the Vostok Design Bureau. With its distinctive X-shaped wing configuration, it poses a different set of tactical capabilities. The information released not only enhances the understanding of these specific UAVs but also casts light on the broader strategic military technologies developed by Russia, hinting at the ongoing technological advancements in unmanned aerial systems amid escalating global tensions.
