A pillar of black smoke rises into the sky in Kaunas district: reports of a large fire

A large fire broke out in the Kaunas district of Lithuania, prompting a response from firefighting teams and warnings to local residents.

On Monday morning, the Lrytas news portal received reports from readers about a significant fire in the Kaunas region. Residents from various locations indicated that the fire had originated in areas such as Varluva, Lapes, Domeikava, and Voskony, but firefighters were promptly dispatched to the village of Eigirgalas. According to Džiuginta Vaitkevičienė, a representative of the Kaunas Fire Rescue Service, a meat processing plant is believed to be the source of the blaze. Following a recent massive fire incident in Vilnius, local politicians have assured the public that there are no indications of sabotage in this case. Meanwhile, neighboring residents have taken precautions by warning each other to close their windows, given the smoke being reported to drift toward Kėdainiai. The situation remains dynamic as firefighters continue to respond to the large-scale fire, which poses a concern for air quality and safety in the surrounding communities.
