Priests Rage in Temple, Beat Devotees with Sticks, Kicks, and Fists, VIDEO

In a shocking incident at the Jyotiba Temple in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, a group of priests attacked young devotees using sticks and fists after a dispute broke out during a festival.

A disturbing event unfolded at the Jyotiba Temple located in Wadiratnagiri, Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, where between 15 to 20 priests violently assaulted young devotees with sticks, kicks, and punches. The incident occurred on a Sunday afternoon when more than 50 young devotees from the village of Parite gathered, and some of them began to misbehave by throwing colored powder and coconuts, irritating the priests. In attempts to restore order, the situation escalated into physical violence, culminating in injuries to at least two devotees.

Social media has amplified the incident, as videos of the altercation have gone viral, showing priests hitting devotees with coconuts and indicating a serious disorder within the temple premises. The precise reasons for the violence and the subsequent treatment of the culprits remain uncertain. Footage reveals that several young men managed to flee the scene, while three to four were apprehended and severely beaten by the priests and security personnel.

The Jyotiba Temple is one of Maharashtra's significant religious sites, known for its main pilgrimage on April 1st each year, attracting devotees from Maharashtra and Karnataka. This incident raises questions about safety and management at religious sites, as well as the responsibilities of temple authorities to prevent such violence and maintain a respectful atmosphere for worshipers, particularly during large gatherings.
