Climate is tipping more and more: 'Planet Earth is being brought to its limits'

The World Meteorological Organization warns of a growing climate crisis fueled by human-made greenhouse gases, with record-high temperatures, warming oceans, melting ice, and increasing atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations.

According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the years between 2015 and 2025 are recorded as the hottest in history, highlighting a severe imbalance in energy caused by human-induced greenhouse gas emissions. This alarming trend indicates that the Earth's ability to balance energy absorption and emission is deteriorating rapidly. The latest WMO report brings forward several distressing indicators showing that the situation of the global climate is critical and leaves little room for optimism.

The WMO's deputy chief, Ko Barrett, emphasized that the indicators are moving in a direction that should not inspire much hope, with significant increases in temperatures affecting various ecosystems. Ocean temperatures are also rising, prompting widespread consequences for marine life and weather patterns. Ice caps and glaciers continue to melt at unprecedented rates, which could result in rising sea levels and disastrous impacts on coastal communities globally. The concentration of greenhouse gases remains high, exacerbating the situation even further.

UN Secretary-General Antรณnio Guterres has called for immediate action, likening the situation to a climate emergency. The necessity for global collaboration in reducing emissions and mitigating the impacts of climate change has never been more urgent. Despite the dire warnings, Barrett pointed out a glimmer of hope, suggesting that collective efforts could still lead to a more sustainable future if swift actions are taken to address these challenges.
