Amazon's space film earns over a billion kroner
Amazon MGM Studios' space adventure featuring Ryan Gosling has generated over 1.35 billion kroner during its opening weekend, marking a significant success for both the film and the studio.
Over the weekend, Amazon MGM Studios' latest space adventure, starring Ryan Gosling, achieved ticket sales exceeding 141 million dollars (approximately 1.35 billion kroner), according to Boxoffice Pro. This debut represents the best opening for an Amazon film since the acquisition of MGM for 8.5 billion dollars in 2022. Remarkably, it stands as the year's biggest box office success to date. The movie features a plot centered around a biology teacher named Ryland Grace, who wakes up with amnesia aboard a spaceship on a mission to save Earth.
Gosling has described the film as 'E.T. meets Interstellar' during his appearance as a host on Saturday Night Live earlier in March, according to Barrons. The film, which is based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir, has garnered attention for its engaging storyline and visual effects. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, it has reached the top of the box office charts in over 60 countries, including the UK, France, Germany, and Japan, and is currently showing in cinemas across Norway.
In addition to its box office success, Amazon has promised further support for theaters, reflecting its commitment to revitalize cinema experiences. This financial success not only enhances the brand's standing in the film industry but also indicates a growing consumer interest in high-quality cinematic offerings, particularly those that blend nostalgia and modern storytelling elements, thereby drawing parallels to classic films that have resonated with audiences over the decades.
