Lula's chief of staff files a lawsuit against Kim Kataguiri over statements about Vorcaro at the Planalto
Marco Aurélio Santana Ribeiro, chief of staff for President Lula, has filed a lawsuit against Congressman Kim Kataguiri for his comments regarding meetings with former banker Daniel Vorcaro.
Marco Aurélio Santana Ribeiro, known as Marcola, who serves as the chief of staff for President Lula, has initiated a judicial inquiry against Federal Congressman Kim Kataguiri. This legal action arises from Kataguiri’s claims concerning alleged meetings between Ribeiro and former banker Daniel Vorcaro at the Planalto Palace. Kataguiri stated that these encounters occurred on three separate occasions and insinuated that President Lula might have utilized these meetings to connect with Vorcaro himself, which Ribeiro seeks to clarify legally.
In the lawsuit, Ribeiro demands that Kataguiri explain the basis of his implications that the meetings involving Ribeiro were somehow connected to Lula's actions. Additionally, the chief of staff is asking for clarification on Kataguiri’s suggestion that cameras within the Planalto were turned off during these purported secretive meetings. Kataguiri made these remarks during an interview on the podcast 'Inteligência LTDA' and in a public session of the Mixed Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) regarding social security.
Despite the controversy, only one meeting involving Ribeiro and Vorcaro has been confirmed by the Presidency; it took place on December 4, 2024. This lawsuit highlights the tensions and political maneuvering surrounding the current Brazilian government, reflecting the scrutiny faced by those in the administration and the complex interactions between politicians and public figures in Brazil's political landscape.
