Kim Jong-un reappointed as Chairman of the State Affairs Commission as North Korea's Supreme People's Assembly begins

Kim Jong-un has been reappointed as the Chairman of the State Affairs Commission during the Supreme People's Assembly in Pyongyang.

The Supreme People's Assembly, which serves as North Korea's highest legislative body, commenced on the 22nd in Pyongyang, where Kim Jong-un was once again elected to the position of Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, the nation's highest authority. The reappointment follows his earlier reaffirmation as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea in February, illustrating his firm grip on power within the North Korean regime.

The initial meeting, held by the delegates elected in the elections that took place on the 15th, marked a significant political event after a seven-year hiatus. Zhao Yongwon, previously serving as the head of the Party Organization Guidance Department, was appointed as the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly, while Park Tae-sung and Choe Son-hui were reappointed as Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, respectively. The gathering is expected to deliberate on constitutional amendments and the execution of a newly proposed five-year national economic development plan announced at the Party Congress.

Given the ongoing tensions between North Korea and South Korea, the assembly's discussions on constitutional revisions pertaining to the perceived "hostile relations" with Seoul are particularly noteworthy. Observers are keenly interested in whether Kim will deliver any messages aimed at the United States or South Korea, as this could indicate the regime's future diplomatic direction and approach towards international relations
