Entry of Owaisi in West Bengal elections, alliance with Humayun Kabir's party

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi announced an alliance with Humayun Kabir's 'Common People Development Party' for the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections.

A new political equation has emerged in West Bengal as AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi declared that his party will partner with Humayun Kabir's 'Common People Development Party' (CPDP) for the forthcoming assembly elections. A joint press conference is scheduled for March 25 in Kolkata, where Owaisi and Kabir will outline the details of their alliance. This coalition is deemed significant as both parties seek to strengthen their influence in the state's political landscape ahead of the elections.

The Common People Development Party has already announced its intent to contest 182 seats in the 2026 assembly elections, indicating a robust campaign strategy. Owaisiโ€™s AIMIM will also be a partner in this alliance, potentially fielding candidates in around eight constituencies. Kabir has released a list of 18 candidates, highlighting key areas such as Raniganj, Bhagabangola, and Murshidabad, where they aim to make a significant impact in the upcoming elections.

With elections scheduled to occur in two phases, the developments surrounding this alliance are critical. The first phase will involve 152 seats, slated for April 23, emphasizing the urgency for both parties to mobilize their campaigns effectively. This collaboration may alter voting dynamics in West Bengal, historically a complex political battleground, as Owaisi aims to expand his party's reach and influence within the state.
