Police recover abducted child’s corpse in Bauchi
Bauchi State Police have arrested a suspect in the abduction and murder of a four-year-old boy whose body was discovered following a ransom demand.
In a tragic incident in Bauchi State, Nigeria, a four-year-old boy named Yunusa Salisu was reported missing on March 18, 2026. His father, Salisu Yunusa, reported the disappearance to the police three days later and received a ransom demand of N500,000 from an unknown caller. Despite paying N100,000, the child was not released, prompting further investigation by the local police.
The Bauchi State Police Command launched a manhunt that led to the arrest of 20-year-old Rabiu Safiyanu, a suspect who knew the victim's family. Investigators suspected Safiyanu due to his close relationship with the younger brother of the victim's father, as he had easy access to their home. Under interrogation, he confessed to the crime, revealing the grim circumstances surrounding the child’s abduction and murder.
This incident raises significant concerns about child safety and the prevalence of abduction cases in Nigeria. The tragedy of Yunusa Salisu’s death highlights the ongoing struggle against violent crime in the region, and the police response indicates a commitment to addressing such heinous acts. The community is left to grapple with grief and fear, as the promise of safety is overshadowed by such violence against children.
