Playing 'Toretto': 4 cars end up in the impound lot after ‘street racing’ event in CDMX
Four cars were impounded in Mexico City after being used in an illegal street racing event in Coyoacán.
In Mexico City, four cars were confiscated by local authorities following a report of a clandestine street racing event, known locally as ‘arrancones’, taking place in Coyoacán. The incident occurred late at night on March 21 near Plaza Oasis, a popular gathering spot. The drivers were allegedly preparing to start the illegal races when law enforcement intervened.
The Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) deployed a security and traffic operation in response to the dangerous gathering of vehicles that disrupted traffic and posed risks to public safety. The police action resulted in 12 traffic violations being issued, alongside the seizure of seven guarantees, leading to the transportation of the four cars to a vehicular impound lot. This operation highlights ongoing concerns about the legality and safety of such illicit events in the city.
Authorities stated that several participants in the street racing were driving without the necessary documentation, further compounding the legal issues faced by those involved. This incident is part of a broader crackdown on illegal street racing in urban areas, as local governments seek to enforce traffic regulations and ensure public safety amidst rising concerns over this trend.
