Poste Italiane, Italy's postal service and financial institution, has launched a substantial takeover bid for Telecom Italia, offering a total of 10.8 billion euros in cash and shares. This strategic move aims to merge financial services, telecommunications, logistics, and digital services into a cohesive platform, creating a significant national entity with projected revenues of around 26.9 billion euros and an aggregated EBIT of 4.8 billion euros, alongside a workforce exceeding 150,000 employees. The bid comes as Poste holds nearly 25% of Telecom Italia's capital, making it the largest shareholder, although the operation is not initially agreed upon with Telecom Italia, which has stated it will evaluate the offer through its board of directors.
