Tumbler Ridge and Taber have been named the top two finalists in the Kraft Hockeyville competition, both offering their communities a chance for celebration after recent hardships.
The Kraft Hockeyville competition has reached its final stages with Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, and Taber, Alberta, emerging as the top two finalists. This annual event, which emphasizes community spirit and resilience in the face of challenges, has provided a platform for these towns to showcase their commitment to ice hockey and local pride. The announcement was met with overwhelming excitement, particularly in Taber, where communications manager Meghan Brennan expressed the joy and gratitude felt by residents. Both towns hope this recognition will uplift their communities during a difficult year.
The Kraft Hockeyville competition, sponsored by Kraft Heinz in collaboration with the NHL and the NHL Players’ Association, is designed to reward communities for their dedication to hockey while also highlighting the importance of local experiences. The winning town will receive $250,000 to improve their hockey rink and the prestigious opportunity to host an NHL Pre-Season game, which would be a significant event for the community. The runner-up is also recognized with a substantial prize of $100,000 for rink upgrades, ensuring that both communities benefit from their participation in this national contest.
Furthermore, as part of the competition, each finalist, alongside other provincial and territorial winners, will receive $10,000 worth of new hockey equipment for youth. This investment in youth hockey not only helps promote the sport but also fosters community connections and encourages the next generation of athletes. The outcome of the competition will not only bring financial assistance for rink improvements but serve as a morale booster for both Tumbler Ridge and Taber during these challenging times.
