Man who was missing is found dead in river in PI; sister reports kidnapping
A man missing for two days was discovered dead in a river in Brazil, prompting his sister to report a supposed kidnapping.
Francisco Lopes de Oliveira was found dead in the Parnaíba River in União, Piauí, on Sunday morning, raising concerns over a potential kidnapping. His sister reported him missing on Friday, asserting that he had been abducted. Local police began an investigation following her claims and conducted a search for relevant evidence. On Saturday, police rounded up information around the alleged abduction, following a lead that Francisco was kidnapped by a white pickup truck. As they patrolled the area, they located a vehicle matching the description provided by his sister. This truck was found to have bloodstains and sand in the bed, suggesting a violent incident could have occurred. While the driver of the pickup denied any involvement in the kidnapping, his bloodied shirt raised further suspicions among law enforcement. Given the evidence presented, he was taken into custody for further questioning at the Central Flagrantes of Teresina. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about kidnapping and violence in Brazil, particularly in areas with rising crime rates.
