Terras: We must do everything to ensure Ukraine continues to fight
Riho Terras emphasizes the need for Europe to fully support Ukraine in its fight, criticizing Viktor Orban's recent actions that he perceives as aligning with Putin's interests.
Riho Terras, a member of the European Parliament and former commander of the Estonian Defence Forces, stated in an ETV broadcast that Europe must do everything possible to support Ukraine's ongoing struggle in the war. He highlighted the necessity for collective action among European nations, condemning Viktor Orban's behavior at the recent European Council meeting. Terras suggested that Orban's recent defiance against supporting Ukraine's assistance reflects a troubling partnership with Vladimir Putin.
Terras conveyed his frustration over Hungary's stance, indicating that Orban seems to be acting as an ally of Putin rather than a member of the EU working for the collective good. He criticized Orban's lack of clear commitment to supporting aid for Ukraine despite previous agreements reached in December regarding a loan to support Ukraine's recovery efforts. Terras argues that Orban's recent shift undermines the unity of the European Union and raises questions about his role within it.
The former general also expressed concern about Orban's influence and decisions within the EU structure, suggesting that leaders who do not uphold collective agreements or show commitment to EU principles should reconsider their participation in the union. Terras's comments encapsulate the broader frustrations within Europe regarding Hungary's increasingly isolated position on support for Ukraine, reflecting a deeper geopolitical tension within the EU regarding its stance toward Russia and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
