SAT 'wakes up': Cancels permits for 336 organizations to receive deductible donations in 2026

The Mexican tax authority, SAT, has revoked the deduction permits for 336 organizations due to various compliance issues.

The Servicio de Administración Tributaria (SAT) in Mexico has taken action to revoke the tax-deductible donation permits from 336 foundations and civil organizations that operate in sectors such as education, culture, health, and support for vulnerable groups. This decision comes after a thorough investigation revealed that these organizations had not complied with necessary fiscal regulations and failed to submit required informative declarations. Notable affected organizations include Mexicanos Primero, México Evalúa, and the Instituto Mexicano para la Competitividad (IMCO).

Among the irregularities identified by the SAT were the organizations' inability to comply with established provisions in the Miscelánea Fiscal, the non-payment of imposed fines, and unresolved legal processes. Furthermore, some organizations did not present their annual income and expenditure declarations, raising concerns about their financial transparency and accountability. As a result of this crackdown, these organizations will no longer be able to issue tax-deductible receipts to their donors starting in 2026.

This move underscores the Mexican government's commitment to enforcing tax compliance among non-profits and aims to ensure that these organizations operate within legal frameworks. The decision is expected to impact the funding and operations of affected organizations significantly, which may lead to reduced capacities in serving communities and addressing critical social issues, particularly for vulnerable populations dependent on their services.
