Next week will be windy – rain will clean street dust in the middle of the week

The upcoming week in Finland is set to begin with mostly dry weather, but some light rain is expected mid-week that may help alleviate street dust.

The week is starting off in Finland with predominantly fine weather across the country, although a narrow band of low pressure will stretch from the southwestern regions to Kainuu, bringing with it the potential for light rain. Meteorologist Anniina Valtonen notes that this area of increased cloudiness cannot truly be classified as a rain zone, as it will not significantly relieve the ongoing street dust issues that many areas have been experiencing. Following Monday, the country will experience an influx of cooler and drier air coming from the southwest, coupled with gusty winds throughout the nation.

Temperatures across Finland will remain above freezing during the day on Monday, but the wind will make it feel much colder. According to Valtonen, the cold winds from the sea will give a much chillier sensation, especially along the coasts. There is also the possibility of light frost overnight between Monday and Tuesday, indicating the stark contrast in temperatures that can occur this time of year. Tuesday is predicted to be sunny but still windy across the nation.

While temperatures may struggle to reach ten degrees Celsius, this weather pattern is expected to be relatively mild for the season. The windy conditions and cooler air will dominate the week, but the projected rain mid-week may offer a much-needed respite from the dry and dusty conditions prevalent on roads and streets across the country. This shift could have benefits for both air quality and road maintenance, as well as impacting outdoor activities.
