Cordex expects the National Assembly to approve the agreement with South Korea "as soon as possible" to obtain benefits

Cordex urges Ecuador's National Assembly to expedite the approval of a trade agreement with South Korea for economic benefits.

After the Constitutional Court's favorable ruling on the economic cooperation agreement between Ecuador and South Korea, the Ecuadorian Corporation of Exporters' Guild (Cordex) is pressing the National Assembly to approve the agreement quickly. This follow-up to the Court's decision reflects the guild's anticipation of the benefits that the agreement could bring to Ecuador's export landscape.

Cordex emphasizes the progress made by the government following the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the Strategic Economic Cooperation Agreement (SECA), which is considered a crucial step in Ecuador's strategy to penetrate Asian markets. The ruling on March 19 confirmed both the formal and material constitutionality of the SECA, prompting the court to notify the Presidency so that the Assembly can be informed.

The significance of this agreement lies in its provisions for the reduction of tariffs on a large percentage of Ecuadorian products, nearly encompassing the entirety of the national export offering. Through this agreement, Cordex hopes Ecuador will enhance its competitive edge in accessing South Korean markets and potentially improve economic relations between the two countries.
