Mendonça authorizes the Federal Police to auction 10 luxury cars and motorcycles seized in investigation about INSS; see list
Brazilian Supreme Court Minister André Mendonça has authorized the Federal Police to auction luxury vehicles seized in a federal investigation into illegal pension deductions.
André Mendonça, a minister of Brazil's Supreme Federal Court (STF), has taken a significant step in the ongoing investigation into illegal deductions from pensions and retirements managed by the National Institute of Social Security (INSS). He has authorized the Federal Police to auction ten luxury cars and motorcycles, previously seized as part of the Operation Sem Desconto. This operation focuses on individuals allegedly involved in fraudulent activities around pension benefits. The total estimated value of these vehicles is approximately R$ 6.6 million.
The seized assets primarily belong to the main suspects in the ongoing INSS investigation, Antônio Carlos Camilo Antunes (also known as Careca do INSS) and Maurício Camisotti, along with associated companies. Among the high-value items set for auction are a 2024 Porsche 911 Car GTS, a 2023 Porsche Panamera, a 2022 BMW M3 Competition, a 2020 Lamborghini Urus S, and a 2020 Porsche Taycan, highlighting the lavish lifestyle of those implicated in the fraud.
In addition to the auction, Mendonça has also permitted that six luxury vehicles be repurposed for official use by the Federal Police, demonstrating a dual approach to dealing with these assets—both recovering funds for the state through auction and reinforcing law enforcement capabilities. This move is likely to resonate with the public, shedding light on government efforts to combat corruption and mismanagement within the pension system, thus restoring some trust in the institutions responsible for social security in Brazil.
