Two suspects are arrested after the body of a missing elderly man is found in a well in Guarulhos, Greater São Paulo
Two suspects have been arrested in relation to the death of 69-year-old Jeferson Figueiredo, whose body was discovered in a well after he went missing earlier this month.
Jeferson Figueiredo, a 69-year-old man, was reported missing since March 5 when he left his home in Itaquaquecetuba to withdraw his retirement funds in Guarulhos but never returned. The authorities began an investigation after receiving a tip about a potential concealment of a corpse at an abandoned property. When police arrived, they located Figueiredo's body hidden in a well, in a state of advanced decomposition.
The Civil Police are treating the case as homicide with robbery (latrocínio) and concealment of a corpse, suggesting that financial motives were behind the crime. It is believed that the suspects intended to steal money that Figueiredo may have carried with him. After the act of aggression, the suspects reportedly kept the body in a room before disposing of it in the well, which adds a gruesome layer to the alleged crime.
As the investigation unfolds, the community is left in shock over the violent crime targeting an elderly individual. The police continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses as they seek to bring any additional suspects to justice, raising concerns about safety and crime within the region, particularly affecting vulnerable populations such as the elderly.
