Vietnam and Russia plan to sign an energy agreement

Vietnam aims to strengthen its fuel reserves through an upcoming energy agreement with Russia amidst global supply disruptions due to conflicts in the Middle East.

Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is set to embark on a visit to Russia from Sunday to Wednesday, with the primary objective of enhancing Vietnam's fuel reserves in light of global supply disruptions triggered by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. This visit is strategic, allowing Vietnam to forge deeper ties with Russia while expanding cooperation in trading, investments, and the energy sector, as stated in a release from the Vietnamese government.

During his visit, several significant agreements are expected to be signed, particularly those related to nuclear power projects, as well as collaborations in the oil and gas industries. The Vietnamese government has underscored its commitment to strengthening cooperation in all areas including trade, exploration, extraction, and training in human resources pertinent to the energy sector.

Since the onset of the war in the Middle East at the end of February, particularly between the USA and Israel against Iran, there has been a notable surge in fuel prices and rising concerns about global shortages. This impending agreement signals Vietnam's proactive approach to addressing potential fuel crises and diversifying its energy sources, while also maintaining a cooperative relationship with Russia amid fluctuating international tensions.
