Iranian Minister: Strikes Have Severely Damaged Water and Energy Infrastructure

An Iranian minister claims that U.S. and Israeli airstrikes have severely damaged the country's critical water and energy infrastructure since late February.

Iran's Energy Minister, Abbas Ali Abadi, stated that the vital infrastructure for water and electricity in the country has suffered significant damage as a result of American and Israeli airstrikes since the onset of the conflict on February 28. He specifically noted that the attacks targeted numerous water transport and treatment facilities, destroying crucial parts of essential water supply networks. Currently, efforts are being made to repair these damages and restore the affected infrastructure.

These comments arose following a recent threat from U.S. President Donald Trump, who warned of strikes against Iranian power plants if shipping in the Hormuz Strait was not resumed within 48 hours. Iran responded with similar threats aimed at regional power and desalination plants, indicating a rapidly escalating conflict between the two nations and their ongoing military activities in the region.

Iran is reported to have around 110 gas power plants, alongside various other types of energy sources including solar, hydro, wind, oil, diesel, coal, thermal, and nuclear power stations. This multifaceted energy landscape highlights Iran's strategic importance in energy supply, making the damage to its infrastructure not only a local issue but one that could have wider implications for regional energy stability and geopolitical tensions.
