Power outage hits parts of Kyiv after failure at Russian-damaged facility
A power outage in Kyiv and its surrounding Oblast occurred due to a failure at a facility previously damaged by Russian attacks.
On March 22, significant portions of Kyiv's eastern bank and the surrounding Kyiv Oblast experienced power outages resulting from a facility failure that had been previously impacted by Russian strikes. According to DTEK, the largest private energy supplier in Ukraine, residents in the Dniprovskyi and Darnytskyi districts of Kyiv were temporarily left without electricity, along with parts of the Brovary district in Kyiv Oblast. The company announced ongoing efforts to restore power to affected areas as swiftly as possible.
These outages come on the heels of one of the most demanding winters in the ongoing conflict, marked not only by military engagement but also by severe weather conditions that have exacerbated the humanitarian situation. Russia's sustained attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure have compounded challenges faced by civilians, pushing the nation towards a humanitarian crisis as residents struggle with constant disruptions to essential services.
The Ukrainian government, with President Volodymyr Zelensky citing the unprecedented scale of attacks, indicated that over the past three months, the Russian military launched a staggering number of aerial assaults, including guided bombs and missiles, targeting urban energy facilities. This incident highlights the dire implications of the ongoing conflict on civilian life as well as the urgent humanitarian needs emerging from such military strategies.
