Fraudsters pulled off a large-scale robbery: nearly 34,000 euros swindled from two victims

Police report two significant instances of fraud in Lithuania, leading to a total loss of almost 34,000 euros by two elderly victims.

The Lithuanian police have reported two serious cases of fraud that occurred on Saturday, involving elderly victims. The first incident took place in Visaginas, where an 85-year-old woman fell victim to a scam on March 20. Scammers, posing as police officers and telecom company employees, contacted her by phone, speaking in Russian, and managed to trick her into transferring 10,000 euros.

On the same day in Vilnius, another elderly woman, born in 1958, reported being scammed in a similar manner. She received a phone call from individuals claiming to be police officers and bank employees, again conversing in Russian, who deceived her into handing over 23,965 euros. Both cases have prompted the initiation of criminal investigations, and police are actively searching for the perpetrators involved in these fraudulent schemes.

These incidents highlight the growing issue of financial scams targeting vulnerable populations, particularly the elderly. The methods used by the scammers show a disturbing level of sophistication and deception, raising concerns about the safety of elderly citizens in Lithuania. The police are urging individuals to be vigilant and to report suspicious calls to help combat such fraudulent activities more effectively.
