Oh Se-hoon, who interviewed, says 'Expansion of a Centrist Campaign Committee is Necessary... Not Forcing Leadership to Step Back'
Oh Se-hoon, the mayor of Seoul, clarified that his request for the early establishment of an innovative campaign committee is not a demand for the current leadership to step back, but rather a strategy to improve the party's poor support in the Seoul metropolitan area ahead of upcoming elections.
Oh Se-hoon, the mayor of Seoul and member of the People Power Party, emphasized on the 22nd that his request for an early launch of an innovative election campaign committee should not be interpreted as a demand for the current leadership, led by Jang Dong-hyuk, to step back. He stated that the request was aimed at addressing the party's lackluster support in the metropolitan area, urging that a more centrist figure should lead the committee to help boost the party's performance in the upcoming local elections.
During a press interview after participating in candidate interviews for the Seoul mayoral election, Oh highlighted that the party's support in the capital region is critically low compared to the opposition party. He mentioned the necessity of a campaign committee that can appeal to swing voters and the centrist demographic, asserting that the party's brand and strategy need revitalization to avoid a poor electoral outcome. Despite mentions of potential figures like former emergency committee head Kim Jong-in and former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min to lead the committee, Oh asserted that he is open to anyone capable of engaging the metropolitan electorate.
Oh expressed concerns that his advocacy for a proactive campaign committee might be misconstrued as a power grab, distancing himself from any intentions of undermining the current leadership's role in opposition battles. He clarified that his vision focuses on collaborating on a centrist direction for the party, rather than diminishing the leadership's capacity for opposition against the ruling party. As the political landscape evolves with significant discrepancies in support between his party and the Democratic Party, the importance of establishing a strong campaign strategy and committee becomes ever more critical to their election success.
