Special Exhibition of Picasso's Ceramics in Gyeongnam 'Big Popularity'
The special exhibition featuring Pablo Picasso's ceramic works at the Gyeongnam Provincial Museum of Art has attracted significant local interest and attendance.
The special exhibition titled 'National Museum of Modern Art Lee Kun-hee Collection: Picasso Ceramics,' which opened on the 18th at the Gyeongnam Provincial Museum of Art, is drawing significant crowds of local residents. Visitors, such as Song Kyung-ah and her friend Cho Yu-jin, expressed their delight in witnessing Picasso's works up close for just a minimal admission fee, reflecting the exhibition's accessibility and popularity among the local community. Many families, groups of friends, and casual visitors are flocking to the event, which showcases the museum's commitment to bringing art closer to its audience. The exhibition stands out as the first of its kind in a public museum, featuring 97 ceramic pieces donated by the family of the late Lee Kun-hee, former chairman of the Samsung Group. These artworks highlight Picasso's exploration of ceramics during his later years, a period marked by his innovative approach to using clay and fire as fundamental artistic materials. The showcase not only underscores Picasso's legacy as a pioneering figure in modern art but also emphasizes the relevance of his ceramic works, which reflect themes of women, animals, faces, bullfighting, and mythology, offering visitors a multifaceted glimpse into his artistic evolution. Furthermore, the Gyeongnam Provincial Museum of Art has organized the exhibition to categorize works according to recurring themes Picasso explored throughout his career. Iconic pieces, such as 'Woman with a Lamp' and 'Bullfight with People,' are presented alongside documentary screenings such as 'Incontrare Picasso,' directed by Luciano Emmer. This not only enhances the audience's experience but also serves as an educational opportunity, inviting deeper engagement with Picasso's oeuvre and its significance within the context of art history and cultural heritage in South Korea.
